Chapter 17 | Śhraddhā Traya Vibhāg Yog| Verse 19
मूढग्राहेणात्मनो यत्पीडया क्रियते तप: ।
परस्योत्सादनार्थं वा तत्तामसमुदाहृतम्
mūḍha-grāheṇātmano yat pīḍayā kriyate tapaḥ
parasyotsādanārthaṁ vā tat tāmasam udāhṛitam
મૂઢગ્રાહેણાત્મનો યત્પીડયા ક્રિયતે તપઃ ।
પરસ્યોત્સાદનાર્થેં વા તત્તામસમુદાહૃતમ્
MEANING
Austerity (tapas) that is performed out of foolishness, by torturing oneself, or with the intention of harming others, is declared to be tamasic (in the mode of ignorance).
जो तप मूर्खतापूर्ण हठ से, अपने शरीर को कष्ट देकर, या दूसरों को हानि पहुँचाने के उद्देश्य से किया जाता है, वह तामस तप कहलाता है।
જે તપ અજ્ઞાનપૂર્ણ હઠથી, પોતાના શરીરને પીડા આપીને, અથવા બીજાને નુકસાન પહોંચાડવાના હેતુથી કરવામાં આવે છે, તે તામસી તપ કહેવાય છે.
